Band 7.5 Model Answer for IELTS General Training Writing Task 1 – Writing A Complaint Letter:

Dear Mr. Jenkins,

I am writing to complain about my recent holiday in Sydney which was organised by your company

My husband and I selected the two-week tour starting on 29 December. Your agency claimed we would be picked up at the airport, and that the hotel was three-star quality. The all-inclusive price we paid included breakfast and dinner.

On arrival at the airport, there was no one to meet us, so we had to take a taxi. This cost $30. The receipt is enclosed.

The hotel was not what I would consider three-star. Besides, the hotel refused to provide us with dinner. We had to spend a further $500 on meals. Again, I enclose our restaurant receipts.

I find it dishonest and unacceptable that your company sold us a tour which in no way resembled the description, and we would like to be compensated for all our extra expenses. The receipts which are enclosed total $530.

If you do not comply, we would have to complain to your main office in London.

Yours sincerely,

Irina Bruce

You should write at least 250 words.

Band 6.0 Model Essay for IELTS General Writing Task 2 Topic:

Despite of the trial to prevent young people from taking drugs in many countries, it is not enough to stop prevent. The case of drug-taking is constantly increasing, the government and general public are in trouble. Since many accidents or crimes are caused by taking drug, it is very important to prevent it.

Firstly , to educate about drug’s hazards is needed to prevent using illegal drugs. Drugs make that the cell of brain or some part of body is killed, also drug-taking is often related with crimes. I think education is the best way to let them know how harmful it is.

Secondly, we should suggest young people alternative activity instead of taking drugs. For example, doing exercise, listening music or reading a book can be good a hobby for them.

Thirdly, we should find the way to solve their problems that cause such illegal behavior, since it isn’t their own responsibility. They are too young to find solution of the problem. It is necessary to communicate between adult and young people for this reason.

By the way, as a result of taking drugs, young people sometimes become crimer criminal. I don’t think it is appropriate. Drug addiction is a kind of psychiatric problem. Instead of sending prison, treating at a hospital is required .

In conclusion, to prevent drug-taking, strict policy or law is not always useful. Above of all, we should try to understand them sincerely. It is a resposibility of adult to educate, to suggest alternatives and communicate with them. Additionally inflicting purnishment makes them worse unless their problem is solved. Moreover, personal, family and society  try together  to help young people not to take drug anymore.

Band 8.0 Sample Answer:

Many young people experiment with drugs, including legal one such as nicotine. Thankfully, many people do not go on using them regularly. However, drugs are potentially addictive and harmful to health. That is why, it is so important to find methods for prevention of using drugs.

To begin with, it has been shown that some teenagers are more at risk of becoming dependent on drugs than others. Risk factors include: low self-esteem, poor-family relationships and poor school performance. Family difficulties, such as a death or divorce can also be a trigger. Therefore, these youths have to receive more attention from their community. Moreover, they have to be involved in some special programs. Self-esteem and life skills exercises, such as role playing, can give children the confidence to withstand the pressure to take drugs.

Furthermore, I believe that it would be useful to keep such teenagers busy. This can be achieved most simply by offering young people activities to fill time when they might otherwise be taking drugs.

In addition, we should bear in our mind that what we do is more important than anything we say. For instance, it will be harder to persuade your teenager to avoid drugs if you regularly smoke yourself. That is why, it is very important for parents to provide a good example for their children to follow. Parents’ involvement in the life of their children is by far the strongest and most important factor in preventing adolescent drug use.

Finally, I think that special programs and movies concerning consequences of using drugs have to be shown on TV. Teenagers have to see what they will face if they do not stop using drug.

To sum up, I would like to notice that, nowadays, none of known methods can work very well. Perhaps it is time to toughen measures. To my mind, it would be appropriate to send young drug-users to prison after giving them several notifications. Maybe, if they are deprived of freedom they will look at their life from the other point of view.
