Band 7.5 Model Answer for IELTS General Training Writing Task 1 – Writing A Complaint Letter:
Dear Mr. Jenkins,
I am writing to complain about my recent holiday in Sydney which was organised by your company
My husband and I selected the two-week tour starting on 29 December. Your agency claimed we would be picked up at the airport, and that the hotel was three-star quality. The all-inclusive price we paid included breakfast and dinner.
On arrival at the airport, there was no one to meet us, so we had to take a taxi. This cost $30. The receipt is enclosed.
The hotel was not what I would consider three-star. Besides, the hotel refused to provide us with dinner. We had to spend a further $500 on meals. Again, I enclose our restaurant receipts.
I find it dishonest and unacceptable that your company sold us a tour which in no way resembled the description, and we would like to be compensated for all our extra expenses. The receipts which are enclosed total $530.
If you do not comply, we would have to complain to your main office in London.
Yours sincerely,
Irina Bruce

Band 8.0 Sample Answer:
Many young people experiment with drugs, including legal one such as nicotine. Thankfully, many people do not go on using them regularly. However, drugs are potentially addictive and harmful to health. That is why, it is so important to find methods for prevention of using drugs.
To begin with, it has been shown that some teenagers are more at risk of becoming dependent on drugs than others. Risk factors include: low self-esteem, poor-family relationships and poor school performance. Family difficulties, such as a death or divorce can also be a trigger. Therefore, these youths have to receive more attention from their community. Moreover, they have to be involved in some special programs. Self-esteem and life skills exercises, such as role playing, can give children the confidence to withstand the pressure to take drugs.
Furthermore, I believe that it would be useful to keep such teenagers busy. This can be achieved most simply by offering young people activities to fill time when they might otherwise be taking drugs.
In addition, we should bear in our mind that what we do is more important than anything we say. For instance, it will be harder to persuade your teenager to avoid drugs if you regularly smoke yourself. That is why, it is very important for parents to provide a good example for their children to follow. Parents’ involvement in the life of their children is by far the strongest and most important factor in preventing adolescent drug use.
Finally, I think that special programs and movies concerning consequences of using drugs have to be shown on TV. Teenagers have to see what they will face if they do not stop using drug.
To sum up, I would like to notice that, nowadays, none of known methods can work very well. Perhaps it is time to toughen measures. To my mind, it would be appropriate to send young drug-users to prison after giving them several notifications. Maybe, if they are deprived of freedom they will look at their life from the other point of view.
